About Days of Wine and Roses

In 1950s New York, PR exec Joe and secretary Kirsten meet at a party. At first, everything goes the way you’d expect: meet, fall in love, marry. But these two ambitious souls soon hit the rocks as alcohol becomes a third partner in their relationship, and their lives spiral out of control.

Depicting the heartwrenching story of an average couple torn apart by addiction, Days of Wine and Roses musical is adapted from JP Miller’s Academy Award-nominated 1962 movie and the original 1958 teleplay by composer & lyricist Adam Guettel (Floyd Collins) and playwright Craig Lucas (An American in Paris). The duo reunite for the first time since their hit collaboration The Light in the Piazza, alongside Dear Evan Hansen director Michael Greif.

The stars of Days of Wine and Roses are ready to stun with their excruciating but beautiful portrayal of a married couple in crisis. Kelli O’Hara is a Tony Award-winning actress who has appeared in The King and I, The Light in the Piazza and Kiss Me, Kate. Brian d’Arcy James is best known for Shrek The Musical, Something Rotten! and a house-raising turn as George III in Hamilton.

The duo reprise their roles on Broadway after the musical’s acclaimed premiere at the Linda Gross Theater in summer 2023, during which critics raved that they “soar” in “one of the best new musicals this year” (The Washington Post).
