Here Lies Love on Broadway Tickets
Discover the story of former Filipina First Lady Imelda Marcos in this immersive disco-pop musical from David Byrne and Fatboy Slim.
A ground-breaking, immersive musical event
A revolutionary musical experience opens in New York this year with Here Lies Love at the Broadway Theatre. This groundbreaking show brings the story of former Filipina First Lady Imelda Marcos, and the revolution that toppled her, to the fore with music by David Byrne and Fatboy Slim. Imelda Marcos rise to power and subsequent violent fall is an extraordnary story of revolution. The wife of President Ferdinand Marcos was by his side during a 20-year dictatorship, until an assassination sparked the Peoeple Power Revolution and the Marcos were overthrown. Here Lies Love comes to Broadway after sold-out, critically acclaimed seasons Off-Broadway, and in Seattle and London. It is masterminded by Tony and Academy Award-winner David Byrne, with additional music by Fatboy Slim. With the help of choreogapher Annie-B Parson and director Alex Timbers, the Broadway Theatre is transformed into a dance club, and audience members can choose Standing tickets for total immersion in this dramatic true story. The cast of Here Lies Love includes Arielle Jacobs as Imelda Marcos, Conrad Ricamora as Nonoy Aquino, and Lea Salonga appearing as Aurora Aquino in a guest engagement from July 11-August 13. I appreciated how interactive this musical was. The performers interact and literally make theatre goers a part of the show. However, I am glad I wasn’t on the floor standing for 90 minutes. It seemed crowded and when I was on the floor for the last I appreciated how interactive this musical was. The performers interact and literally make theatre goers a part of the show. However, I am glad I wasn’t on the floor standing for 90 minutes. It seemed crowded and when I was on the floor for the last 15 minutes, I didn’t like constantly feeling like I was in the way or had to stand completely still or accidentally touch everyone around me. The show itself was interesting. Learned some history though at times I was confused about what was happening or who certain people were. Real call transcripts were used as part of the dialogue which I thought was clever. There were comedic moments. There were serious and sadder moments. I appreciated the all Asian cast. Somewhat made me think of Parade only in the sense that it was portraying real world events. In every other way, HLL is very very different than Parade. Set and storytelling were different than any musical I’ve seen so far. Honestly, I would go at least once just to experience the interactive floor experience of the musical (even better if you can get VIP box seats to experience the floor without standing for over an hour).
