What is The Outsiders about?

A Gripping Story From Page To Stage

The Outsiders was written by S.E. Hinton between the ages of 15 and 16, and has inspired millions of readers since its publication in 1967. It captures the memories of a generation of Americans and resonates even decades later. It was adapted into an acclaimed film directed by Francis Ford Coppola in the 1980s, but audiences in New York will feel as if they’re experiencing it anew with this stunning musical.

The show has a book by Adam Rapp with Justin Levine, music and lyrics by folk duo Jamestown Revival and Justin Levine, music supervision, arrangements & orchestrations by Justin Levine, choreography by Rick Kuperman & Jeff Kuperman and directed by Danya Taymor.

It’s already swept up audiences and critics during its season in San Diego, where it was lavished with praise. NY Times declared it “brutal and poetic”, while the LA Times said it, “(adapts the book) imperfectly yet courageously into hypnotic theater.”

Several cast members from the show’s premiere transfer to Broadway including Brody Grant as Ponyboy Curtis, reprising his “star-making performance” from La Jolla Playhouse. Other cast members are Sky Lakota-Lynch as Johnny Cade, Joshua Boone as Dallas Winston, Brent Comer as Darrel Curtis, Jason Schmidt as Sodapop Curtis, Emma Pittman as Cherry Valance, Daryl Tofa as Two-Bit Mathews, and Kevin William Paul as Bob Sheldon.
