What Is the Musical Warriors About?
The Warriors, an all-female gang, rule the roost on Coney Island. But when they are invited to a gang meeting in the Bronx, things quickly turn sour when the women are accused of murdering respected rival gang leader, Cyrus. With Cyrus’ gang out for blood, the Warriors flee across the city and embark on an epic, and vicious, battle to clear their names. Will the truth come to light, or will the Warriors' journey end in tragedy?
The History of Warriors on Broadway
Warriors is inspired by the 1979 movie of the same name, based on the novel by Sol Yurick, which was itself inspired by the Ancient Greek story Anabasis.
The musical began life as a concept album and reimagines the source material into a gender-flipped, hip-hop and musical theatre-infused piece that reflects the diversity of NYC. The album was released in 2024 and was produced by Grammy winners Nas and Mike Elizondo. A star-studded cast lent their voices to the album, including Ms Lauren Hill, Busta Rhymes, Billy Porter, Colman Domingo, Nas and Ghostface Killah.
This staging marks the production's world premiere.
