What Is New Play Affluenza About?
A teenager takes a drunken car ride, with devastating results. But when he’s brought before a court of law, the trial takes a complicated turn. He is part of the ultra-rich Hamptons set, highly privileged and part of a long-running family legacy filled with generational wealth. Can he really be held accountable if his upbringing and affluence have shielded him from learning what is right and what is wrong?
Based on a shocking real-life legal defence, Affluenza is a blistering, darkly humorous examination of the costs privilege and power have on moral accountability and the American justice system.
