Riverside Studios London

Riverside Studios was founded in 1933, on the site of a former Victorian Iron Foundry, and transformed into a film studio by Triumph Films, producing many films including pictures starring Vera Lynn and Alec Guinness. The venue was acquired by the BBC in 1954; renamed to the Riverside Television Studios, the Queen Mother opened the site in 1957. Many television programmes were made there, including Top of the Pops, Blue Peter, and episodes of Doctor Who, including the iconic first regeneration scene with William Hartnell.

In 1974, a Hammersmith and Fulham Council charitable trust took ownership of the venue, turning it into a multidisciplinary arts venue with a cinema and art gallery. They produced plays, starring Helen Mirren and Brian Cox, as well as concerts from artists including David Bowie and Amy Winehouse, dance productions, and filmed TV shows, including Never Mind the Buzzcocks and The Last Leg. The venue underwent refurbishment again in 2014, when it was acquired by Anil Agarwal. Assael Architecture redeveloped the building to include residential flats as well as two cinemas, new television studios, event spaces, restaurants and cafes. The venue celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2026, and continues to host high-quality theatre, with notable performers including Sir Lenny Henry and Simon Callow.
