What is the play Jaja’s African Hair Braiding about?

Welcome to Jaja’s, the lively Harlem braiding salon where the team of West African immigrant braiders will make all your hair-dreams come true. Over the course of one sweltering summer's day, the women weave their braiding magic in Jaja’s shop, but in between the laughter, gossip and banter, as the temperature rises, so do tensions. The women must deal with demanding customers and interpersonal dramas as betrayals come to light and secrets are revealed. Each of these women has big dreams - but in a country that is becoming increasingly hostile to immigrants, their community, and the place they call home, may be at risk.

Jaja’s African Hair Braiding premiered on Broadway in 2023 to critical acclaim, winning two Tonys at the 2024 awards before embarking on a US tour. This production marks the show’s UK premiere.
