About the Venue

Staged at the brand new Troubadour Canary Wharf Theatre, a custom-built venue especially made for the production, The Hunger Games is performed in the round, with seats split into eleven seating areas. These are each labelled with a different District number, inspired by the Districts – the areas where each Tribute in the games lives – in the story.
The stage is in the centre of the auditorium, and seats in Row A are up close and personal on the same level as the stage. Subsequent rows are tiered upwards, so theatregoers look down onto the stage, and there is an additional two-row Balcony at the top of the auditorium, District 11, which offers the cheapest seats. When watching the show, audience members become a part of each District, adding to the immersion, and seats in certain Districts even move as part of the action!
The state-of-the-art venue also features the on-site Songbird restaurant, where you can book pre-theatre dining packages; multiple bars including a terrace overlooking the Thames; merch stands for you to grab some Hunger Games goodies; and a throne, allowing theatregoers to grab their own photo opportunity as the Girl on Fire!
Where to Sit… If It’s Your First Visit
Our superfans have seen the show several times, but if it’s your first time watching The Hunger Games: On Stage, they recommend prioritising good sightlines, a few rows back from the front of the stage, for the best experience.
As the auditorium is custom-built in a 360-degree design, sightlines are excellent throughout. Seats right up front are right next to the stage, allowing you to feel part of the action, while the tiered seating means seats slightly higher up offer an excellent overview.
Our superfans report that there are:

Some of our superfans recommend Districts 8 and 9 or 4 and 5 as their top spots for a first-time visit, and stated that their favourite seats were located a few rows back, in Rows D or E – although they recommend first-time audience members avoid sitting right on the aisle, warning that handrails may slightly obstruct the views here.
These seats are perfect for fans who don’t want to spend too much on a first visit. While they still offer a great view, and aren’t too far from the stage, seats in Districts 8 and 9, Rows D and E are usually priced at around £65, while seats just a couple of rows further forward can cost double the price.
If it’s your first time at the Canary Wharf Theatre, be sure to take a photo on the winner’s throne, too – this is located in the upstairs Foyer near the bar.
Where to Sit… To Enjoy the Special Effects
The Hunger Games play features “eye-popping visuals” (Guardian), including intensely choreographed fight scenes, live archery, aerial work and stunning visual and lighting effects. Hollywood actor John Malkovich also appears via video as the sinister President Snow, projected on two screens located at either end of the auditorium, and seats in Districts 1 and 2 even move with the action, making audience members feel like a real part of the show!
To see the special effects, superfans said they’d recommend seats toward the back of District 5, stating they felt these offered a:

While there are screens at both ends of the auditorium, superfans advised that if they were sitting at the far ends in Districts 1 or 2, they would choose District 2 for a better view of John Malkovich’s performance, but that seats in Districts 4 and 5 would offer a clear view of either screen.
Seats toward the rear of District 5 range from £67.50 to £35, while seats in Districts 1 and 2 range from £312.50 to £57.50, with prices subject to change on weekends.
Where to Sit… To Feel Immersed in the Action
The theatre’s innovative 360 design is intended to make the show feel super immersive, as if the audience are a real part of the action, sitting in the Capitol to witness the Hunger Games in real time.
No spoilers, but there are also small personalised touches relating to each Tribute from the specific Districts throughout the show, making you feel like a true supporter and member of your District!

Actors frequently come down the aisles, and there are instances during the show when the audience can vote on key moments as they unfold. As we mentioned in the special effects guide above, seats in Districts 1 and 2 also move at specific points as part of the show.
Some of our users were big fans of these moving seats, stating:

It is worth bearing in mind that one of our superfans reported that they found the moving chairs to be a little bit noisy when in motion, which was a tad distracting, but other users didn’t seem to mind.
Prices for seats in the moving sections, Districts 1 and 2, vary, ranging from £312.50 for VIP package seats or £197.50 for premium at the front, down to £57.50 for seats at the rear.
Where to Sit… If You’re Looking for a Bargain
Going to the theatre can be expensive, but our superfans have you covered with their recommendations for bargain seats.
The cheapest seats for The Hunger Games are located in District 11, and are up on a small balcony, looking down at the action from both sides of the auditorium.
One of our superfans said they hadn’t personally sat in the District 11 seats, but in their opinion, they felt that:

Some superfans, however, disagreed and said that they would avoid District 11, feeling they’d be too distant from the action.
Seats in this area generally cost around £35 and received largely good ratings from our users, with most users awarding 4 stars for the view – although many did note that you have to lean forward throughout the show to get the best view.

While these may not be the best seats for a first-time visit if you’re a Hunger Games mega-fan, they’d be a good budget option for those who aren’t too fussed about being right up close to the action.
Seats toward the rear of Districts 4 and 5 are also available at £35 on certain days, so if you want to feel a bit closer to the action, you could always opt for these seats when they are available. If you’re willing to pay a little bit more, go for seats towards the centre of Districts 1,2,4 and 5 which are priced around £57.50 and offer a great overview of the stage.
Where to Sit… If You Want the Best Seats Money Can Buy
If you’re treating yourself to a special night out in the Capitol and money is no object, you may simply be looking for the best seats in the house. While the definition of best seats is highly subjective, there are premium seats available for The Hunger Games that offer fantastic views.
One of our superfans said they:

The top price seats are located front and centre in Rows A and B of Districts 1, 2, 4, 5, 8 and 9. The most expensive seats are priced at £312.50, which includes a VIP package with perks including drinks and lounge access. The next two prices down are £197.50 and £152.50, which offer central, premium views but without the VIP add-ons.
If your main concern is comfort, superfans advise:

Some of our superfans stated they wouldn’t personally book the more expensive seats, as they felt the views from seats a few rows back – which cost around £85 – were still excellent.
The premium seats do, however, receive glowing reviews from our users, earning 5 stars for both view and comfort – so while repeat attenders may be keen to find a bargain, if you are visiting the theatre for a special occasion, splashing out on top price tickets might be worth it for a truly magical night out.
Seats to Avoid, According to Our Superfans
We asked our superfans if there were any seats they’d steer clear of in the auditorium – but remember, choosing a seat is always subjective. Someone’s favourite location might be your absolute nightmare, while their ones to avoid might be your top picks!
Some superfans would avoid District 7 if you’re looking for a speedy exit:

They also warned of slight restrictions for aisle seats in Districts 4, 5, 8 and 9, advising that the handrails here could potentially block a small section of the stage and screens – although they did emphasise that the restrictions were very minor and wouldn’t be a big issue for most of the show.
Users also advised that sitting by the walls in Districts 1 and 2 may mean that, to see some of the action, you might have to occasionally crane your neck over the side of the section.
Overall, our superfans found they had a positive experience in most seats.

Where to Sit… For Hidden Gem Seats
We asked our superfans which seats they think are real hidden gems in the theatre, that people might not immediately think to book.
Superfans rated the seats towards the back of District 5, stating:

These rear District 5 seats are generally at a lower price, and offer an amazing overview of the stage. Other superfans felt that the cheaper seats in District 11 were also likely to be hidden gems and great value for money, because of the size and layout of the theatre.
Both District 11 and the seats toward the rear of District 5 are usually priced around £35, and are the cheapest in the house – our superfans definitely know where to find the best bargains!
