What is The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry about?
Harold Fry is living a quiet, ordinary life in Devon when a letter arrives from an old friend, Queenie Hennessy, who is terminally ill. He sets out to post a reply… only to keep walking, convinced that if he keeps going, she will stay alive. Without proper shoes or preparation, Harold begins an unplanned, cross-country journey from Kingsbridge to Berwick-upon-Tweed. Along the way, he meets strangers who shape his outlook, encounters small acts of kindness, and unearths regrets and memories that have been buried for years.
Back home, his wife Maureen is left to navigate her own grief and confusion. As Harold’s pilgrimage unfolds, hers does too. Blending humour, hope and heartbreak, The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry is a story of redemption, resilience, and the gentle power of change.
