Gloria in New York City

Gloria makes its Broadway premiere at the Hayes Theater, located in the heart of Times Square, next year. A new production of the Pulitzer Prize-finalist play by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins sees original director Evan Cabnet return to direct this dark comedy about the absurd, dog-eat-dog world of early professional life at a prestigious New York City magazine. What Is the Play Gloria About?

Set during the 2010s, Gloria follows a ruthless and driven group of low-level employees in the cutthroat offices of a prestigious New York City magazine. As the group frantically try to claw their way up the corporate ladder, a life-altering event forces them to seize a career-defining moment. Described as an adrenaline rush of a show, this “whip-smart satire of fear and loathing” (The New York Times) explores just how far people will go to satisfy their ambition.

The History of Gloria

Gloria made its Off-Broadway debut at the Vineyard Theatre in 2015, where it was developed two years earlier in a developmental workshop. It went on to have subsequent runs in Australia, as well as a London transfer at Hampstead Theatre, where it was directed by Michael Longhurst. This run in 2027 marks the play’s return to the stage for the first time since 2019 and is its Broadway premiere.
