Here We Are Tickets

Be one of the first to see Stephen Sondheim’s final musical at its world premiere Off-Broadway. Playing for a limited time only.

Here We Are Tickets: Sondheim’s Final Musical

Book tickets for Here We Are and you’ll be able to brag that you were one of the first to see the late, great Stephen Sondheim’s final musical during its world premiere at The Shed theater New York! Sondheim lent his musical skills to this long-awaited show, and after years of speculation, this “surreal and starry feast” (Variety) is ready to view Off-Broadway in one last curtain-up for the legendary composer.

What is Here We Are about?

Based on Luis Buñuel’s movies The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie (1972) and The Exterminating Angel (1962), Here We Are is a tale of “trying to have dinner” - with surreal dinner parties featuring throughout. However, as with all Sondheim shows, what lies beneath the byline is what will hook you, and this new musical skewers bourgeois mores as a group of moneyed friends agree to meet for brunch, but find themselves trapped and hurtling towards an apocalypse.

Sondheim’s Final Musical

Stephen Sondheim is synonymous with Broadway, but it is at the intimate Shed venue in Hudson Yards that his final new work makes its debut. Anyone who has enjoyed the Tony Award winner’s impressive back catalog - from gothic Sweeney Todd to wild and wonderful Into the Woods - should make the trip to see his final offering, which had been in development for ten years before his death in 2021.

The creative team in addition to Sondheim includes book writer David Ives, and Tony Award-winning director Joe Mantello (Wicked, The Boys in the Band).

The Here We Are Cast

The cast of this chameleon-esque and constantly surprising musical is a who’s who of Broadway and musical theater stars - Francois Battiste, Tracie Bennett, Bobby Cannavale, Micaela Diamond, Amber Gray, Jin Ha, Rachel Bay Jones, Denis O’Hare, Steven Pasquale, David Hyde Pierce, and Jeremy Shamos. Some appear throughout, and some for a fleeting cameo, so keep your eyes peeled and enjoy the surprises as they come!

The amount of times I laughed during this show was a truly ridiculous amount. The cast, set design, costumes, you name it were utterly brilliant. I can only imagine what would have come of this if Sondheim was able to finish it.

An abstract piece, here we are had Earworms in its melodies during act 1. Act 2 reverts to a straight play with minimal instrumental at the end. I really liked it. Performances were amazing.

A bit random at times and the score (Sorry Mr Sondheim) is really nothing to write home about. Still some pretty insightful moments though.
