What Is the Play Mix and Master About?
In the Bronx, a record shop is about to take its final revolution. But a rising DJ isn't ready to give up hope and let the music die. As tensions turn up the volume and records spin, what starts as a jazz and hip-hop fueled battle to save the store and keep a culture alive soon becomes a reckoning about legacy, courage and what we do to survive. Featuring a live DJ set each night, the world premiere of this brand new show pushes the boundaries of what is possible in theatre.

The Creative Team of Mix and Master
Mix and Master is written by Dominique Morisseau. Morisseau is the recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship, or “Genius Grant”. Her credits include the book for musical Ain't Too Proud, and The Detroit Project, a three-play cycle that includes: Detroit '67, Paradise Blue and Skeleton Crew.
Kamilah Forbes directs. Forbes is the executive producer of the Apollo Theater. A curator, producer, and director, Forbes created and directed the Hip Hop Theater Festival from 2000 to 2016. Her credits include The Wiz! Live, A Raisin in the Sun, Def Poetry Jams, and Between the World and Me.
