What is the Broadway musical Schmigadoon! about? 

Josh and Melissa’s romance has been on the rocks for a while -  as doctors, living in New York City, their busy lifestyle means the relationship has lost it's spark. So when the two have the chance to take part on a couple’s backpacking retreat, they leap at the chance, hoping to rekindle their love. But when the two continue to bicker, causing them to get lost on a hike, they wind up in Schmigadoon, a strange, magical town where the townspeople keep bursting into song and the only road out of town is a bridge to nowhere. Luckily, Melissa is a musical fan, and she soon discovers that Schmigadoon is a Golden Age musical come to life - which means they need a fittingly dramatic and magical means of escape. In order to leave, the pair must find true love - but as the townsfolk vie for their attention, will they find it with each other?

Schmigaddoon! on Broadway is based on the first season of the award-winning Universal Television and Apple TV+ original series. Both a parody and homage, Schmigadoon season one draws inspiration from Golden Age musicals, including The Music Man, The Sound of Music, Carousel, and, of course, Brigadoon, the musical from which the show takes both the inspiration for its name and the concept of a mysterious, magical town.

The stage adaptation first premiered at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC in 2025 and features all songs from the Grammy-nominated score from the series, along with brand new tunes. 

Who are the cast of Schmigadoon on Broadway?

Alex Brightman and Sara Chase took on the lead roles in a 2024 workshop of the production, and at the Kennedy Center run.

The television series starred Keegan-Michael Key and Cecily Strong as Josh and Melissa, alongside numerous Broadway legends including Alan Cumming, Kristen Chenoweth, Dove Cameron, Ariana DeBose and Jane Krakowski. 

Who are the creative team of Schmigadoon on Broadway? 

Schmigadoon! on Broadway features a book and score by Cinco Paul. Paul is an award-winning screenwriter and composer. He co-created the concept for Schmigadoon the series, alongside Ken Daurio, who later left the project. Paul remained with the show as the showrunner and songwriter, winning an Emmy for best Original Music and Lyrics for his work. His other credits include the Despicable Me franchise, The Secret Life of Pets, the music for Mary Magdalene musical A.D. 16, and Bubble Boy the Musical, adapted from his own screenplay for the Jake Gyllenhaal-led movie, co-written with Ken Daurio.

Schmaigadoon is executive-produced by Lorne Michaels, creator of the legendary sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live.
