Getting into the Venue

Access to the St. James Theatre is step-free from 246 West 44th Street. Wheelchair users and patrons with limited mobility are able to get from the lobby to designated accessible seating in the Orchestra easily.

Designated wheelchair spaces are available across the back half of the Left, Right and Center Orchestra, namely in rows P-Q. Companion seats can be purchased alongside these spaces, and are placed to the side or in front. Transfer seats are also available at various points from row C.

A further handful of transfer seats are located in the Mezzanine and Balcony. Patrons should be aware that these can only be accessed by stairs (29 steps and 77 steps respectively) and therefore may not be suitable for those with limited mobility.

There are no elevators or escalators at this venue.

Customer Assistance

A wheelchair accessible unisex restroom is available, step-free, in the Orchestra lobby. Other restrooms one floor below (22 steps) and in the Mezzanine (29 steps up) do not enable wheelchair access.

Patrons can leave bags and coats in the coat check, located in the Orchestra lobby. Each item costs $3 to check. A bar is also available on Orchestra level, and drinks can be taken back to patrons’ seats. Please be advised that staff may be unable to assist with steps into or inside the venue. It is therefore advisable to bring a companion to the performance.

Section Accessibility

Orchestra

The St. James Theatre Orchestra is entirely step-free for all patrons from the entrance and lobby, and all designated wheelchair seating is located in this section.

Wheelchair seats can be found across the Orchestra, including in rows O and P. Several companion seats are available to purchase to the sides and in front of these.

Transfer seats are also available, including in rows E and J of the Right Orchestra; rows M, O and P in the Center Orchestra; and rows D and J in the Left Orchestra. Some of these seats, such as J26 and D17, are marked as partial view because they are at the far sides of the section.

Mezzanine

Mezzanine seating is located up one flight of stairs from the Orchestra (29 steps), with a further 22 steps across the section. This is usually presented as two steps up or down to each row. All staircases have handrails.

Transfer and companion seats can be purchased in rows F, G and H of the Mezzanine, towards the center of the section. Patrons are advised that as there are no elevators or escalators available up to this level, caution should be taken before booking if you have limited mobility.

Balcony

The Balcony is on the third level of the St. James Theatre, up 77 steps. Once in the section, there are a further two steps up or down to each row. All stairs have handrails. Around four transfer seats are placed across rows F and H in the Balcony – including H17 and F30 - with companion seats available in adjacent spots. However, as this section is only accessible by stairs, it can be quite a walk and therefore unsuitable for patrons with very limited mobility.
