What is Sunset Boulevard about?

On Sunset Boulevard, movie star Norma Desmond sits in her mansion and yearns to return to the big screen. Eager young starlets have taken her place, but a struggling screenwriter who’s knocking on Hollywood’s door might be able to offer her a lifeline. As their dangerously captivating relationship grows, however, it seems headed in one direction: disaster.

Soaked in breathless ambition and cynicism, Sunset Boulevard is based on the 1950 film. It is one of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most intoxicating musicals, with songs including “As If We Never Said Goodbye”, “New Ways to Dream” and “With One Look”. The original Broadway production won six Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

An Intoxicating Revival of a Classic

Olivier Award winner and Tony nominee Jamie Lloyd (Betrayal; Cyrano de Bergerac; Romeo and Juliet) is one of the 21st century’s most lauded theater directors, and in Sunset Boulevad he created a sensation that West End audiences couldn’t get enough of.

Grammy Award nominee Nicole Scherzinger stars as Norma Desmond, reprising her Olivier Award-winning performance from the show’s London premiere.

Scherzinger is best known as a pop icon and former member of The Pussycat Dolls, and she previously starred as Grizabella in the West End revival of Cats - earning a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the Olivier Awards.

Mandy Gonzalez (In The Heights, Hamilton) will guest star as Norma on selected dates, starting from Tuesday 22 October.

Several other cast members transfer from London for Sunset Boulevard Broadway season, including Olivier Award winner Tom Francis as Joe Gillis, and Olivier Award nominees Grace Hodgett-Young as Betty Schaefer and David Thaxton as Max Von Mayerling.
