Time and the Conways on Broadway Tickets

Todd Haimes Theatre

Elizabeth McGovern takes on a classic post-war tale as Time and the Conways returns to Broadway. This time-warping indictment of class, reputation and free will opens at the American Airlines Theatre.

Academy Award nominee Elizabeth McGovern returns to Broadway for Time and the Conways this Fall. J. B. Priestley’s time-travelling play was last seen in New York at the Ritz Theatre back in 1938.

In 1919 Britain, the Great War is over and a sense of wealthy expectation is in the air. Mrs. Conway is feeling particularly cheerful at her daughter’s extravagant twenty-first birthday celebration, which seems to mark the start of a prosperous new era. Nineteen years later, things aren’t so cheery. With the pop of champagne bottles a distant echo and the family irreparably fractured, Time and the Conways travels through eras to explore the choices, chances and destiny that led down this path.

J. B. Priestley was one of Britain’s foremost inter-war playwrights, often using time slips to interrogate class and prejudice in his work. Best known for An Inspector Calls, his plays are routinely revived in the West End and on UK tours.

Elizabeth McGovern stars as Mrs. Conway, having last appeared on Broadway in Hamlet (1992). An Academy Award, Emmy and Golden Globe nominee, she has appeared in Downton Abbey, Ragtime and Ordinary People.

Further casting includes Charlotte Parry (The Winslow Boy) as Kay Conway, Outer Critics Circle nominee Matthew James Thomas (Pippin) as Robin Conway, Tony Award winner Gabriel Ebert (Matilda the Musical) as Alan Conway, and Drama Desk Award nominee Anna Camp (All New People) as Hazel Conway.

Time and the Conways at the American Airlines Theatre is directed by recent Tony Award winner Rebecca Taichman (Indecent), with set design by Neil Patel (Wonderland), costumes by Paloma Young (Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812) and lighting design by Christopher Akerlind (Waitress).

Combining a lesser-performed British classic with the formidable Elizabeth McGovern’s talents, Time and the Conways is a startling and still-timely exploration of free will and greed. It begins previews on September 14 2017, with opening night set for October 10 2017.
