Barcelona Play Tickets: An Explosive New Thriller

Lily Collins and Álvaro Morte make their explosive West End debuts in Bess Wohl’s latest play Barcelona at the Duke of York’s Theatre. Set over one night as an American tourist heads home with a Spanish man, this funny, tense and surprising show will keep audiences guessing as a shifting balance of power and identity unfolds.

What is Barcelona the play about?

Late at night in Barcelona, an American tourist meets a Spaniard. They talk, and share drinks, then decide to head home together. But what starts as a carefree flirtation takes a darker turn, as danger beckons and the personal and political collide.

Bess Wohl’s latest play is a sexy, surprising thriller that sees two strangers come together… but what are they hiding, and how far will pretence and fantasy get them?

Lily Collins in Barcelona

Golden Globe nominee Lily Collins makes her West End debut in Barcelona. She is best known as aspiring fashion marketer Emily Cooper in Netflix hit Emily in Paris, and has earned acclaim for her work in Mirror, Mirror, The Mortal Instruments and Love, Rosie.

Collins stars opposite Álvaro Morte, a Spanish actor who has earned international recognition in Money Heist and The Wheel of Time.

As the stars of a two-hander, these London stage newcomers will bounce off each other in an intense volley of dramatic suspense and humour as their characters’ one-night stand transforms into something unexpected.

Creative Team

Barcelona is American Bess Wohl’s latest work, following the Tony Award-nominated Grand Horizons on Broadway and Camp Siegfried, which premiered at the Old Vic in 2021. Her talent for injecting humour, shocks and wisdom into intimate relationships across domestic, casual and extreme settings has propelled her to the top level of US playwrights working today.

The play is directed by Lynette Linton, Artistic Director of Bush Theatre. Linton is fast becoming one of the UK industry’s must-see creatives, having helmed a groundbreaking all women of colour Richard II at Shakespeare’s Globe, and the acclaimed Donmar Warehouse and West End production of Sweat.

I enjoyed the play overall - Lily Collins is possibly a little overacting, but that it part of the role she plays. Be warned - I found it really hard to concentrate for the first 15-20 minutes because of the number of (I presume) Emily in Paris fa Read more

The play was amazing. Well-written with enough humour and adequate drama. I enjoyed it so much that I could watch it again if the tickets were not so expensive for this play. Still, it is so worth it. Both Lily Collins and Alvaro Morte were breathtak Read more

Lily Collins was the best fake drunk! She and her co-star Alvaro Morte had great chemistry and the story was well played out. Went in not really knowing what to expect but it all made sense in the end
