The heart-warming children’s show based on Julia Donaldson’s best-selling book returns this winter.

The Gruffalo’s Child in London

Join the Gruffalo’s daughter on her exciting journey and let your imagination go wild as The Gruffalo’s Child returns to London this winter at the Lyric Theatre, just minutes from Piccadilly Circus! This best-selling Julia Donaldson story springs from page to stage, adapted by award-winning children’s theatre company Tall Stories, and invites little adventurers (and adults too) to enter the spooky woods and find out if the Big Bad Mouse really exists… “Warm, witty and beautifully made” (London Theatre1), The Gruffalo’s Child is unmissable theatre for all the family this winter.

What is the children’s show The Gruffalo’s Child about?

“No Gruffalo ever should step foot in the deep, dark wood…” One dark and stormy night, the Gruffalo’s Child ignores her father’s warnings about the dangerous Big Bad Mouse and decides to explore the woods by herself. She tiptoes out when everyone is asleep, follows snowy footprints along winding paths, and meets lots of strange and wonderful creatures. But the Big Bad Mouse doesn’t really exist, does he? Engaging songs, lots of laughs and a little bit of scary fun make this enchanting adaptation of Julia Donaldson’s picture book the perfect show for young children, who will love seeing their favourite characters live on stage. Adults will enjoy it too because it is packed with brilliant surprises that brings out the youngster in all of us!

The Gruffalo is children’s author Julia Donaldson and illustrator Axel Scheffler’s most famous creation, and the winner of the Nestlé Smarties Book Prize. The picture book first came out in 1999 and has become a classic story for young children to gobble up - so many that over 13.5 million copies have been sold! The Gruffalo has been adapted into a festive favourite BBC film with Robbie Coltrane as the voice of the Gruffalo, and into a fun and engaging play by Tall Stories. In 2004, The Gruffalo’s daughter set out on her own adventure when The Gruffalo’s Child was published, and Tall Stories brought her story to the stage in 2005. Both The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo’s Child stage plays have been beloved favourites for families up and down the UK ever since, and they make the perfect introduction to theatre for little ones!
