    King Lear on Broadway Tickets

Theater legend Glenda Jackson returns to Broadway this spring for a limited engagement as King Lear. Playing for just 19 weeks, catch this unmissable and bold new take on Shakespeare’s mightiest role at the Cort Theatre.

Theater legend Glenda Jackson first played King Lear at London’s Old Vic Theatre in 2016, attracting major critical acclaim and an Olivier Award nomination for Best Actress. Now, she travels across the Atlantic for a new production of Shakespeare’s magnificent and devastating tragedy at the Cort Theatre.

King Lear is the story of an ailing monarch who decides to divide his kingdom between his three daughters. But when his youngest, Cordelia, refuses to accept her share, lies, deceit and a lust for power overwhelms Lear with fatal consequences. King Lear has long been regarded as one of Shakespeare’s greatest tragedies, with its central story of madness, monarchy and family explored through poetically devastating language.

In Sam Gold’s landmark new production, the traditionally male role of Lear is played by Glenda Jackson, who makes a triumphant return to the stage following years as a politician in the UK. She won the Tony, Drama Desk and Drama League awards for the smash hit revival of Three Tall Women in 2018, adding to her impressive collection of accolades including Academy Awards (Women in Love, A Touch of Class) and an Emmy. On stage, she has taken on a multitude of roles including Ophelia in Hamlet (1965) and King Lear in Deborah Warner’s 2016 production.

Jackson is joined in King Lear on Broadway by a cast including Olivier Award and Golden Globe winner Ruth Wilson (Constellations, The Affair on Showtime) and Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) in his Broadway debut.

Multi-award-winning director Sam Gold (A Doll’s House, Part 2) helms this new production, having picked up a Tony award for Fun Home. Other creatives include Philip Glass (The Hours, Notes on a Scandal), who provides a compelling original score, and set designer Miriam Buether (The Jungle, To Kill a Mockingbird).

Featuring a star of stage and screen at the height of her powers, catch King Lear at the Cort Theatre before it closes on June 9 2019.
