What Is Paddington The Musical About?
Deep in the forests of Peru, a young spectacled bear cub lives a comfortable life with his Aunt Lucy, who teaches him the importance of manners and politeness that she learned from a British explorer. But when his elderly aunt retires to a Home for Retired Bears, the cub must seek a new home. Armed with only a hat, coat and a case full of orange-marmalade sandwiches, the bear travels across the seas from Peru all the way to London. Lonely, afraid, and more than a little lost, he is thankfully discovered at Paddington train station with a note pinned to his jacket, reading “Please look after this bear”, by the Brown family. Despite the father’s misgivings, the family soon bring him to their house, where he quickly settles into his new life - albeit with a few mishaps and plenty of hijinks along the way.
But, Paddington discovers that underneath the smiles and cups of tea, the Brown family has issues of their own, and when a nefarious villain puts Paddington’s life at risk, the family must decide what they’re willing to risk to save the cub, and truly make him a part of the family.
The History of Paddington The Musical
Paddington Bear is one of the most well-known and loved fictional characters in the United Kingdom. Created by author Michael Bond (1925-2017), Paddington first appeared in the 1958 children's book A Bear Called Paddington. The character has appeared in 29 best-selling books, the last of which was published posthumously, which have sold over 35 million copies worldwide. Paddington’s story increased further in popularity in 2014 when Bond’s books were adapted into an award-winning series of movies. Paddington has also appeared in animated television shows, commercials, an immersive experience in London, and even in royal company, as part of a skit with Queen Elizabeth II for part of the Platinum Jubilee.
