Tickets For Swing State Available Now

Be first in line for the New York premier of Rebecca Gilman’s play Swing State at Minetta Lane Theatre! This gripping contemporary portrait of rural American life opens Off-Broadway for a limited season this September, direct from an acclaimed premier at Chicago’s Goodman Theatre in 2022.

What is Swing State about?

Recently widowed woman Peg finds evenings on the prairie quiet. She still cooks for two; it’s a hard habit to break, and sometimes it doesn’t go to waste because Ryan - troubled, but a friend - sometimes comes to visit. However, when Peg notices that her husband’s toolbox is missing, she calls the local authorities and unwittingly triggers a series of events that will shake the entire community. Set in a divided country that has only grown more wary and unforgiving in the wake of a global pandemic, the line between friend, foe and family are blurred.

This acclaimed play premiered at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago in Fall 2022, where it was hailed by the Chicago Sun-Times as “an engrossing work of intense melancholy”, and by the Chicago Tribune as “perhaps the first of the great American post-COVID plays.”

Swing State Play Cast and Creatives

The cast of Swing State transfers from its initial season in Chicago. They include Mary Beth Fisher as Peg, Kirsten Fitzgerald as Sheriff Kris, Anne E. Thompson as Dani and Bubba Weiler as Ryan.

Falls is a Tony Award winner whose work includes the Tony and Drama Desk Award-winning 2003 Broadway production of Long Day’s Journey into Night starring Vanessa Redgrave and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
