Pantomime In York

This year, theatregoers are in for a treat as local panto legend Berwick Kaler once again dons his dame wig in Robinson Crusoe. Like the city itself, Kaler's much-loved York panto promises tradition, fun, spectacle and a feel-good factor that the entire family will love, and it is unlike any other Christmas show in the country.

York is a city steeped in history and perhaps it is at its most beautiful at Christmas. The lights and decorations spread magic throughout the medieval streets and the St. Nicholas Fair brings families together for wholesome festive cheer. Meanwhile, Yorkshire Winter Wonderland features the largest ice-rink in the North of England, so get your skates on!

Frequently Asked Questions

This year's York panto is sea-faring adventure Robinson Crusoe - or rather, river-faring as it's set on the River Ouse! This madcap, traditional production of a lesser-performed pantomime is set to be a real treat for the whole family.
It wouldn't be a York pantomime without the legendary Berwick Kaler, Britain's longest-serving panto dame and a staple of the York Christmas season for four decades. Kaler plays the dame in every production and is joined by his long-time sidekick Martin Barrass (Emmerdale), who has appeared in every York panto since 1984. The cast also features Suzy Cooper, AJ Powell and David Leonard.
There is no confirmed running time for Robinson Crusoe, but last year's production was around two hours. Other pantomimes across the UK are around 2 hours 30 minutes long, with an interval.
Robinson Crusoe pantomime ticket prices start at £15 and go up to around £55.75. Discounts are available for Seniors and Under 18s on selected dates and price bands. Package deals are available for the Ambassadors Box for £36.75, which include nibbles, chocolates and a mini bottle of bubbly.
