What is the play Love’s Labour’s Lost about?
In sun‑drenched Navarre, four noble lords swear off love and all worldly pleasures in pursuit of study and self‑discipline. Their plans are joyously derailed when the Princess of France and her spirited entourage arrive on a diplomatic mission, bringing wit, music, and irresistible allure.
This brand new production of Shakespeare's playful, lyrical comedy infuses this rarely staged gem with the vibrant spirit of flamenco in a tale of oaths, desires, and the inevitable havoc love wreaks on even the most resolved hearts.
The History of Love’s Labour’s Lost
Written in the late 1590s, Love’s Labour’s Lost is celebrated for its energetic wordplay, intricate rhymes, and youthful wit. Though less frequently staged than Shakespeare’s greatest hits, the play has enjoyed notable productions over the centuries, including a 2009 Globe staging directed by former Globe Artistic Director Dominic Dromgoole.
This summer’s production embraces that rich tradition while offering a bold contemporary twist, inviting audiences to experience Shakespeare’s joyous celebration of language, love and the human heart in one of the world’s most iconic theatrical spaces.
