American playwright Lindsey Ferrentino made her UK debut with her hilarious new drama at the National Theatre’s Lyttleton Theatre. Ugly Lies the Bone began performance on 22nd February and runs until 6th June 2017.

Lindsey Ferrentino made her UK debut with this exciting and funny new drama that pulls no punches. Born in Florida, Ferrentino has been the recipient of a range of awards, including the 2016 Kesserling Prize, the Laurents/Hatcher Citation of Excellence and the Paul Newman Drama Award.

When it premiered in an extended off Broadway run at Roundabout Theatre Company, Ugly Lies the Bone was received with great critical acclaim, selling out the opening run and generating new productions across America.

Ugly Lies the Bone tells the story of Jess, who is returning to a small town in Florida. On the Space Coast, with time ticking away until the final shuttle is due to launch, Jess must face up to her past, as well as a home town that might have changed even more than she has.

Taking a leap by trailing an innovative virtual reality therapy, she creates a beautiful new world where she can run away from her pain. In this new world, she slowly begins to restore her relationship, her life and even herself.

Ugly Lies the Bone was directed by Indhu Rubasingham, the acclaimed artistic director of the Tricycle Theatre in Kilburn, who managed to feature on many critics’ favourite plays of the year lists in 2016 for her production of The Mother**ker with the Hat. Indhu Rabsingham was awarded an MBE for her services to drama, as well as winning the Asian Women of Achievement award and the Liberty Human Rights Award.

Ugly Lies the Bone featured a fantastic cast of acclaimed actors including Kate Fleetwood (Medea, High Society and King Lear) as Jess, as well as Kriss Marshall (My Family, Fat Pig and Treats), Ralf Little (Death in Paradise, Dead Funny and 24 Hour Party People), Buffy Davis (The Arches) and Olivia Darnley (Twelfth Night).

Having arrived at the National Theatre’s Olivier Theatre for its UK premiere, Ugly Lies the Bone was one of the most exciting new plays to hit the London stage in 2017, with it’s all-star cast and creative team. Ugly Lies the Bone began performances on 22nd February 2017, having had an official opening on 1st March 2017.
