Getting into the Venue

The August Wilson Theatre is not entirely accessible from street level on West 52nd Street, with eight steps down to the main entrance and a further 25 steps up to the Orchestra, where accessible seating is located. For patrons unable to navigate the steps, a stair lift directly serves the Orchestra. From the entrance at 245 West 52nd Street, patrons can contact the porter in the Outer Lobby or employees in the Box Office, who will escort them to the stair lift.

Designated wheelchair spaces and transfer seats are located in the Orchestra, on the left-hand side of the auditorium. The Mezzanine is 16 steps up from the Orchestra, and doesn’t have any accessible seating.

Customer Assistance

Patrons requiring assistance when arriving at the August Wilson Theatre can contact the Porter, who is able to help operate the stair lift. Once inside the venue, theater staff may not be able to escort individuals to their seats, so bringing a companion is advised.

A unisex wheelchair accessible restroom is located on the Orchestra level, close to the stair lift’s upper landing. Other restrooms are one floor below the Orchestra in the Lower Lobby.

For comfort, a coat check is available in the main lobby, accepting bags and large coats at a cost of $3 per item.

How to Book

For those who require special assistance or wish to book wheelchair spaces, it is important to book in advance and notify the theater of any special requirements. Tickets for all accessible seating can be booked online at Ticketmaster, or by calling 877-250-2929.

For further information and assistance before booking, please call Jujamcyn Customer Service on 212-840-0479 or email customerservice@jujamcyn.com.

Section Accessibility

Orchestra

There are usually four wheelchair spaces and four transfer seats on the far aisle of the Left Orchestra, between rows D and S. These seats are close to the stair lift and accessible restroom. Wheelchair designated spaces have up to three companion seats available, and transfer seats have one companion seat.

The Orchestra is not step-free from the street. There are eight steps down to the main lobby, and 25 steps up to the section from there. Patrons with limited mobility or using wheelchairs can access the Left Orchestra directly from street level using the stair lift.

Mezzanine

The Mezzanine lobby is located up 16 steps from the Orchestra, and 41 steps from the main entrance to the August Wilson Theatre. From the lobby, it is six steps up to the Mezzanine entrance behind row E. There are an additional two steps up or down to each row.

All staircases in the theater have handrails, although, as this section doesn’t have any designated wheelchair or transfer seats, it is not recommended for patrons with limited mobility.
