Yellow Face Broadway Tickets On Sale Now

Tony Award winner and three-time Pulitzer Prize finalist David Henry Hwang’s (M. Butterfly) acclaimed play Yellow Face makes its Broadway debut in Fall 2024 as part of Roundabout’s latest season. This hilarious and biting farce about a playwright who protests yellowface casting, before accidentally casting a white actor in his own show, runs at the Todd Haimes Theatre for a limited season.

What is Yellow Face about?

When Jonathan Pryce was cast in Miss Saigon in 1990, waves of criticism came from the Asian-American and artistic communities. Chief amongst the protestors was a playwright who’d had enough of yellowface casting practices.

But the playwright soon finds himself in a sticky situation: he’s mistakenly cast a white actor as the Asian lead in his new play.

Inspired by real events, Yellow Face is a fantastic is-he-or-isn’t-he comedy that runs riots through the world of showbiz, touching on identity and the complexities of race. It premiered Off-Broadway in 2007 and has played in London and Australia, before coming back Stateside this year for a hotly anticipated Broadway debut.

Cast and Creative Team

Yellow Face is written by Tony Award-winning playwright David Henry Hwang, and inspired by real events. Hwang is best known for M. Butterfly, and he has been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama three times: for M. Butterfly, Yellow Face and Soft Power.

Tony Award nominee Leigh Silverman directs. Her theater credits include Violets and the new historical musical Suffs, which won Best Book and Best Score at the 2024 Tony Awards ceremony.

The cast is led by Daniel Dae Kim as playwright DHH. Kim is known for his portrayal of Jin-Soo Kwon in Lost and Chin Ho Kelly in Hawaii Five-0. He has appeared on stage in The King and I at London’s Royal Albert Hall and New York’s Lincoln Center Theatre.

Yellow Face is a very comical look at what happens when a very vocal advocate for authentic race-based casting finds out he unintentionally placed a Caucasian actor in the lead role of an Asian character. The comedy is fast and furious, but there is Read more
