Hollywood actor Jude Law stars in Shakespeare’s bloody Henry V, the grand finale in Michael Grandage’s sell-out season at the Noel Coward Theatre. Taking place across 2012-2013, Grandage has directed a series of plays that have seen famous faces Judi Dench, Ben Whishaw, David Walliams, Sheridan Smith and Daniel Radcliffe grace the stage. Now, Law takes on the role of the famous King in Shakespeare’s well-known play about nationhood.

Investigating the bloody horrors of war and a turbulent land in crisis, Henry V follows the brutish, arrogant and tightly-wound King, who itches to start a fight with the Dauphin of France. When the resulting Battle of Agincourt leaves Henry V victorious, he is forced to tread the fine line between capturing France and losing England in the process. As Henry takes on a disguise to determine his popularity with his troops, he learns a lot more than a thought. A celebration of England’s military might, Shakespeare’s play takes a hard look at the bloody horror of conflict.

Henry V sees Law and Grandage reunite for the third time, their collaboration beginning in 2009 with Hamlet, and continuing with Anna Christie at the Donmar Warehouse. Law is best-known for his extensive film credits, including Sherlock Holmes, Anna Karenina, The Holiday, Closer and Alfie. I’d Do Anything’s Jessie Buckley plays opposite as Princess Katharine, with stage credits including The Tempest and A Little Night Music. Further cast members include Norman Bowman (Finding Neverland, Mack and Mabel, Twelfth Night), as Nym/Williams, Michael Hadley (King Lear, Othello, The Boat That Rocked) as Canterbury and Prasanna Puwanarajah (Silk) as Mountjoy.

Additional cast includes Harry Attwell as Grey/Gower, Jason Baughan as Bardolph/Bates M. Le Fer, Richard Clifford as Ely/King Charles VI, Ron Cook as Pistol, Ian Drysdale as Cambridge/Constable, Noma Dumezweni as Mistress Quickly/Alice, Edward Harrison as Westmoreland, Christopher Heyward as Macmorris/Orleans, James Laurenson as Exeter, Ben Lloyd-Hughes as Dauphin/Scroop, Matt Ryan as Fluellen and Ashley Zhangazha as Boy.

Directed by Michael Grandage (Peter and Alice, A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Henry V features set and costume design by Christopher Oram and lighting design by Paule Constable, with original compositions and sound design by Adam Cork. Opening as the finale in Grandage’s “Season of Five Plays” at the Noel Coward Theatre, Jude Law stars in Henry V until February 2013.
