1776 on Broadway Tickets

Todd Haimes Theatre

The classic Founding Fathers musical returns to Broadway in a timely new revival directed by Tony Award-winner Diane Paulus.

Diane Paulus revives a Broadway classic

Genre-defining musical 1776 is reimagined for the 21st century by Tony Award-winning director Diane Paulus.

1776 is an exciting take on the events leading up to the Declaration of Independence through the eyes of Founding Father John Adams. As he attempts to convince his fellow Congress members to vote their way out of British rule, Adams is faced with tough questions about the cost of freedom and who exactly will benefit from it.

The musical first premiered in 1969 with a book by Peter Stone and songs by Sherman Edwards. It picked up three Tony Awards including Best Musical.

In this revival, Diane Paulus (Waitress) re-examines 1776 in light of how contemporary politics echo a defining moment in US history. The creative team includes choreographer Jeffrey L. Page and costume designer Emilio Sosa.

The cast, which reflects multiple representations of race, gender, and ethnicity, includes Crystal Lucas-Perry as John Adams, Patrena Murray as Benjamin Franklin, and Elizabeth A. Davis as Thomas Jefferson.

Embracing a musical theater classic whilst ensuring it reflects the present day, book 1776 musical tickets and enjoy a fresh new perspective on American history.

Show was performed incredibly well, with stellar vocals and acting choices. However, it was definitely an odd show to stage in 2022. Despite the update with an all-female cast, the show’s script is still very uneven and doesn’t have nearly as many mu Read more

This show is fantastic. I got rush tickets, and I saw it in Boston before it came to New York. Even in a bad seat, this show is one to see.

Sadly, not a fan of this production with minimal set, bland costumes, and the all-female cast. I saw a better, more traditional, regional production years ago.
