Jake Gyllenhaal and Tom Sturridge star in a double-bill of monologues exploring fathers, sons and the life-affirming power of love this summer. Catch Sea Wall/A Life at the Hudson Theatre from July 26 2019.
In Sea Wall, photographer Alex (Sturridge) is holidaying in the south of France with his family. His counterpart in A Life, Abe (Gyllenhaal), is a music producer and father-to-be. With shattering performances exploring the burden of fatherhood and the legacy of sons, this double bill is a powerful meditation on the crushing weight and affirming power of love.

Tom Sturridge made his Tony Award-nominated Broadway debut in 2013’s Orphans. Across the big and small screens, he has appeared in The Hollow Crown (2016) and Velvet Buzzsaw (2019).
Simon Stephens’ plays had been performed worldwide, with The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time running on Broadway for two years. His work has received both Olivier and Tony Awards.
Nick Payne is a writer of both stage and screen, with his play Constellations enjoying success on both sides of the Atlantic. His other work includes The Same Deep Water As Me (Donmar Warehouse, 2012) and the screenplay for The Sense of an Ending (2016).
Sea Wall/A Life is directed by Carrie Cracknell, whose theatre work spans London’s National Theatre (Medea, 2012) and Almeida Theatre (Oil, 2016) amongst others.
