Overview

The Playhouse Theatre is a Victorian-style building, situated next to Embankment tube station and overlooking the River Thames. Since renovation in the early 1900's, the theatre reduced its seating capacity to fewer than 1,000, making it an intimate yet accessible venue for medium-scale musicals and plays. The Playhouse Theatre is renowned for its celebrity-filled productions which have included Tamsin Greig, Lindsay Lohan and Matthew Perry, as well as hosting the regularly returning 1984.

The auditorium is built in a traditional Franco-Venetian style and is split across three narrow levels. Sight-lines are very good, with no immediate obstructions in the more expensive seats, which are located in the Stalls.
