Duke of York's Theatre

Olivier Award-winning actress Tamsin Greig (Much Ado About Nothing, Black Books) stars in April de Angelis’ brand new play about parental anxieties and life after fifty. Following Hilary as she battles with a rebellious daughter, a damp marriage, panic attacks and a whole load of quirky friends, Jumpy wowed critics at its Royal Court premiere. Now, the play transfers to London’s Duke of York’s Theatre for a limited run, directed by Nina Raine.

Tamsin Greig stars in Olivier Award-nominated playwright April de Angelis’ brand new play about a dysfunctional family, transferring to the West End’s Duke of York’s Theatre after a hugely successful opening at the Royal Court. Jumpy follows a fifty year-old mother and wife who spends her time locked in a battle of wills with her daughter. Raucously funny and cuttingly honest, Jumpy runs for a limited season beginning August 28th at the London venue.

A new play by April de Angelis, Jumpy follows Hilary, a middle-aged mother and wife who once protested at Greenham. Now, she tends to protest more about what her teenage daughter wears when she’s on her way out. Married to a shop-owner, Hilary is a regular victim of panic attacks on the tube, worrying about losing her job, fighting with her daughter and the amount of wine she downs when she gets home. When she discovers that her daughter is sleeping with her boyfriend, tension builds between Hilary and her husband, as their own marriage has long since been dry. A very funny and very frank family drama, Jumpy is guaranteed to provide plenty of laughter and a few recognisable moments for parents!

Acclaimed actress Tamsin Greig reprises her role as Hilary, following critical praise for her performance at the Royal Court. Greig’s extensive credits both on and off stage include her Olivier Award-winning portrayal of Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing, as well as Episodes, Black Books, Friday Night Dinner and Green Wing. Further cast members include Seline Hizli as Lyndsey, Doon Mackichan as Frances, Richard Lintern as Roland, Bel Powley as Tilly, Amanda Root as Bea, Ewan Stewart as Mark, James Musgrave as Josh and Ben Lloyd-Hughes as Cam.

Directed by Nina Raine as her last play at the Royal Court, Jumpy is written by April de Angelis, who has penned A Laughing Matter and The Positive Hour amongst many other plays. Jumpy features design by Lizzie Clachan, with lighting design by Peter Mumford and sound design by Paul Arditti. A hilariously guileless drama about parental anxieties and life after fifty, Jumpy is the critically acclaimed play opening for a limited time at London’s Duke of York’s Theatre.
