Duncan Macmillan's play Lungs is enacted by a starry cast led by Claire Foy and Matt Smith. A topical and engaging look at eco-conscience and the responsibility of bringing a baby into the world, the piece runs at the Old Vic later this year, with dates yet to be announced.

In a world where the ice caps are melting and overpopulation is crushing the planet, why would a couple choose to bring a new life into the world? If a baby equals "ten thousand tonnes of CO2", is it really worth its hefty price? A man and a woman chart a roller-coaster of emotions as they discuss the pros and cons of starting a family.

Claire Foy (DNA, The Miracle) and Matt Smith (American Psycho, Unreachable) are set to make their Old Vic debuts. The pair previously starred together in the Netflix series The Crown.

Playwright Duncan Macmillan made a name for himself thanks to the Bruntwood Playwriting Competition. He went on to pen the critically acclaimed People, Places and Things and Every Brilliant Thing, among other works. The production is directed by Matthew Warchus, the Old Vic's Artistic Director.

Catch this highly relevant and satisfyingly meaty production of Lungs at the Old Vic, playing from 14th October.
