Phyllida Lloyd’s direction and Anthony Van Laast’s choreography provides a winning formula that has entertained London theatregoers for over a decade. Originally opening in 1999 at the Prince Edward Theatre, this fun-filled musical feast transfers to the Prince of Wales, exploring love, family and friendship.
Set on the Greek island of Kalokairi, a young Sophie reaches a crossroads in her life. Soon to be married, but none the wiser to the identity of her father, she comes across her mother’s old diary entries and begins her own investigation into the identity of the man she wishes to walk her down the aisle. Unbeknownst to Donna, her mother, Sophie invites three potential father figures that feature in the diaries to the island, just days prior to the wedding. What ensues is a hilarious yet touching blast into Donna’s past, as she must confront old flames in order for Sophie to transition from young girl into young woman.
Mamma Mia! sees an array of talented performers tread the boards. Sally Ann Triplett stars as Donna, alongside Joanna Monro as Rosie and Kim Ismay as Tanya, making up the three gal pals-come-bandmates Donna and The Dynamos. Their rendition of ‘Super Trouper’, complete with spandex and platform boots is a real treat for audiences both young and old.
