For a strictly limited number of performances, the National Theatre stages a musical version of Pericles on the Olivier stage. Playwright Chris Bush adapts Shakespeare’s Pericles into a musical version that features a huge cast of professional performers and people drawn from several community organisations across London.
The young prince Pericles is whip-smart but naïve, and needs to leave his homeland after a bad decision threatens his safety. As the fates carry him across the seas from place to place, Pericles is forced to quickly grow up and learn the value of going home.
With music by James Fortune, the production is created by Chris Bush, whose credits include The Assassination of Katie Hopkins, The Changing Room, What We Wished For and A Declaration from the People. Bush has been in residence at Oxford Playhouse and Sheffield Theatres. James Fortune’s credits Teh Internet is Serious Business and My Brilliant Friend.
Pericles is directed by Emily Lim (Behind the Beautiful Forevers) and features design by Fly Davis, choreography by Robby Graham, lighting design by Paule Constable and sound design by Paul Arditti.
