Christopher Durang’s hit Broadway comedy receives its London premiere. Blending elements of Chekhov’s work with modern issues, this laugh-out-loud show runs at Charing Cross Theatre until 8 January 2022.Vanya and his sister Sonia live quietly in the Pennsylvania farmhouse where they grew up. Their sister Masha, on the other hand, left town and found fame as a film star. When she suddenly returns with her toy-boy Spike in tow, a weekend of rivalries and regrets kicks off between the siblings.
Christopher Durang’s comedy enjoyed huge success in the US, opening on Broadway in 2013 and winning the Tony Award for Best New Play. In London, two-time Tony Award winner Walter Bobbie (Chicago) directs a cast including Janie Dee (Comic Potential) as Masha.
Taking the best elements of a classic Chekhov and adding in modern-day questions of celebrity, social networking and becoming middle-aged, Vanya and Sonya and Masha and Spike tickets promise a hilarious night out for theatre fans.
