Joe Orton’s outrageous 1967 comedy What the Butler Saw receives an almighty revival at London’s Vaudeville Theatre. Directed by Olivier Award-winning Sean Foley, who has made his name as a leading comedy director with The Play What I Wrote and The Ladykillers, What the Butler Saw is the hilarious farce that sees characters lose the plot, their wits and eventually their clothes!

When psychoanalyst Dr Prentice orders his new secretary to undress, he does not expect to be inundated with visits from his wife, her blackmailing lover, a meddling government inspector and an overly inquisitive policeman! Although hiding the naked woman should be at the top of his priorities, poor Prentice is distracted by libidos running riot, mistaken identities and a complete lack of decorum. With madness running amok, What the Butler Saw brings into question morality whilst being shockingly hilarious.

Acclaimed actor Tim McInnerny stars as Dr Prentice, alongside actor and comedian Omid Djalili as Dr Rance. McInnerny is perhaps best-known for his portrayal of Percy in Blackadder, as well as his many screen appearances in films such as Notting Hill, 101 Dalmatians and Casanova. Djalili is an award-winning performer who has featured in films such as The Mummy and The Gladiator, with his most recent stage appearance being Fagin in the London revival of Oliver!. Further cast members include Samantha Bond (Outnumbered, Downton Abbey) as Mrs Prentice, Georgia Moffett as Geraldine Barclay, Jason Thorpe as Sergeant Match and Nick Hendrix as Nicholas Beckett.

Directed by Sean Foley, What the Butler Saw is written by Joe Orton (Entertaining Mr Sloane, Loot), with lighting design by Johanna Town and sound design and original music by Ben and Max Ringham. Packed full of bawdy comedy, pant-dropping and hysterical one-liners, What the Butler Saw is the spectacularly funny play that you would simply be mad to miss, opening at the West End’s Vaudeville Theatre.
