Comedian Adam Kay brings his riotous and confronting show This Is Going to Hurt (Secret Diaries of a Junior Doctor) to the Garrick Theatre this October. By sharing entries from the journal he kept as a junior doctor and combining these with music and stand-up, Kay is able to bring the NHS frontline into vivid, visceral relief. A sell-out at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2016, 2017 and 2018, the show has also enjoyed huge popularity on its UK tour, and arrives at London's Garrick Theatre for a strictly limited run.

Adam Kay is an award-winning writer and comedian, having contributed to television shows such as Mrs Brown's Boys, Mitchell & Webb, Bounty Hunters and Blind Date. He has also spent some time on the other side of the camera and will be familiar from his appearances in Newsnight, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown and more. He has penned numerous features and columns for The Observer, The Sunday Times and other publications.

This Is Going to Hurt is accompanied by a book of the same name. A Sunday Times bestseller and multi-award winner written by Kay himself, it is currently being turned into an 8-part series for the BBC. Numerous high-profile comedians, TV personalities and top publications have already chimed in with their rave reviews and endorsements. It will be possible to purchase copies of the book after Kay's performance at the Garrick.

Dubbed “electrifying” by the Guardian and “viscerally raw” by Chortle, This Is Going to Hurt promises a unique glimpse into the trials and tribulations of an NHS junior doctor. A sublime mix of skilful wordplay, spoof songs and squeamish hospital horror stories, it promises humour and first-hand observation in abundance. They say laughter is the best medicine, but this dose might just leave you a little scarred. The production runs at the Garrick Theatre from 2 to 6 October 2018.
