Crazy For You Tickets

Novello Theatre

Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Crazy For You ran at the Novello Theatre in 2012.

Filled with classic Broadway musical numbers and plenty of big production numbers, Crazy For You is an all-singing, all-dancing show which has kept audiences entertained and smiling throughout its many productions.

Crazy for You is a romantic comedy musical based around the Zangler Follies. Bobby is tasked to shut down a theatre, but if he does so, he’ll risk losing the love of his life…who he’s only just met! The plot ensues, including a play-within-a-play, mistaken identity, and plenty of comic moments. Expect glitzy costumes and toe-tapping numbers in this big Follies-style show.

With a book by Ken Ludwig and using music by the Gershwin brothers, Crazy For You has a whole songbook full of memorable numbers. The show uses a variety of songs from the Gershwin catalogue, including "I Got Rhythm", "Someone to Watch Over Me", and "Slap That Bass".

First premiering in 1992, the musical was directed by Mike Ockrent and choreographed by Susan Stroman. The musical won three Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Choreography, and Best Costume Design. Jodi Benson (known as the voice of The Little Mermaid) starred.

A West End transfer came along in 1993 starring Ruthie Henshall. The show won three Olivier Awards including Best Musical.

In 2011, a revival was staged at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre. The revival was given many five-star reviews and transferred to the Novello Theatre until March 2012. The production starred Clare Foster and Sean Palmer, and won the Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival. WhatsOnStage called the show “a joyous revival”.

The Gershwin Brothers are responsible for writing the music and lyrics for a whole host of Broadway musicals. A selection of these include Porgy and Bess, Funny Face and An American in Paris.

Choreographer Susan Stroman is a five-time Tony Award-winner, having choreographed for shows such as Young Frankenstein and Show Boat. She also directed and choreographed the 2001 Broadway hit The Producers, which went on to twin 12 Tony Awards as well as be made into a film, also directed by Stroman.

Crazy For You was a toe-tapping, Broadway sensation which has spanned many productions across the years, with the Novello production being the most notable in the UK.
