Noel Coward Theatre
Lindsay Duncan leads an all-star cast in a revival of Noel Coward’s beloved comedy Hay Fever, set to open at London’s aptly named Noel Coward Theatre. Following retired stage star Judith Bliss, she decides to invite a young suitor on a weekend break, without the knowledge that her eccentric family have decided to do similar things. A rip-roaring, classic comedy, Hay Fever is sure to entertain all audiences!
Noel Coward’s beloved play Hay Fever receives a revival at London’s newly renamed and refurbished Noel Coward Theatre, becoming the first Coward play to be staged at the aptly named theatre. Directed by Olivier Award-winning Howard Davies (All My Sons, Private Lives), Hay Fever is the sublime comedy of bad manners, misjudged meetings and secret seductions that has received countless West End revivals over the years.
Hay Fever follows retired dazzling stage star Judith Bliss, as she continues to enjoy life with a pinch of drama and the occasional big scene. In order to spice up a prospectively dull weekend, she invites a young suitor to join her on a secret excursion to the country. However her writer husband David, as well as her two unusual children Simon and Sorel, have the same idea and soon, the hopes of any private flirtations soon dissipate. As the family’s guests begin to arrive, scandalous revelations run riot in the most outrageously dramatic of meetings.
Award-winning stage and screen actress Lindsay Duncan stars as Judith Bliss, which sees her reunited with director Davies for the first time since they received seven major international awards for their 2001 collaboration on Private Lives. Further star cast members include Jeremy Northam (The Tudors) as Richard Greatham, Kevin McNally (Pirates of the Caribbean) as David Bliss, Olivia Colman (Hot Fuzz, Peep Show) as Myra Arundel, Sam Callis (The Bill) as Sandy Tyrell, Freddie Fox (Parade’s End) as Simon Bliss, Jenny Galloway (Les Miserables) as Clara, Amy Morgan as Jackie Coryton and Phoebe Waller-Bridge as Sorel Bliss.
First written by Coward in 1924, Hay Fever is one of his many well-known plays, which also include Private Lives, Blithe Spirit and Relative Values. Davies’ revival features design by Bunny Christie, lighting design by Mark Henderson and sound design by Mike Walker. Don’t miss out on this comic classic, set to open at the Noel Coward Theatre in February 2012.
