After premiering on its stage 40 years ago, Noises Off returns to the Lyric Hammersmith in 2019. The classic backstage comedy runs from 27 June.
Hailed as a classic of British comedy which takes audiences behind the scenes of a haphazard acting company, Noises Off follows the cast and crew of farcical flop Nothing On as they prepare and perform the show. With plenty of mishaps and laugh-a-minute brilliance, the play is a lovable favourite that pays tribute to the unpredictable life of the theatre. It earned a London Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Comedy and four Tony Award nominations when it transferred to Broadway.
The ensemble cast for Noises Off at the Lyric Hammersmith includes Meera Syal (Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company: Romeo & Juliet, RSC: Much Ado About Nothing), Daniel Rigby (National Theatre: One Man, Two Guvnors) and Debra Gillett (National Theatre: Three Days in the Country).
Playwright Michael Frayn is a prolific playwright, author and screenwriter whose other credits include the novel Spies and comedy film Clockwise, starring John Cleese. This new revival is directed by Jeremy Herrin (National Theatre: People, Places and Things, West End: Labour of Love) with design by Max Jones, lighting by Amy Mae and sound by Lorna Munden.
Get ready to laugh and cringe at the thespian antics in Noises Off. The show plays at the Lyric Hammersmith from 27 June 2019.
