Rodelinda Tickets
Rodelinda, Handel’s commanding tale of power, love and grief returns to the London Coliseum as part of ENO’s spectacular season of much-loved revivals starting this Autumn. Rebecca Evans reprises the titular role following her lauded 2014 performance.
Jones sets Handel’s bitter political drama in fascist Italy where Grimoaldo has usurped the throne and forced King Bertarido to flee the country, abandoning his son and grief-stricken wife Rodelinda. The devious usurper Grimoaldo sets his sights on the vulnerable Rodelinda, determined to win her love by any means. But when the exiled king returns to the city in disguise everyone is put to the test.
Heading the cast is Rebecca Evans, returning to the role following her critically lauded performance in 2014. She is supported by one of the UK’s finest countertenors, Tim Mead, who adds Bertarido to his long list of ENO roles. Alongside them is a phenomenal ensemble, including Susan Bickley (Eduige), Christopher Lowrey (Unulfo) and Neal Davies (Garibaldo).
Conducting is Baroque-specialist Christian Curnyn with revival director Donna Stirrup. The grand visage of director Richard Jones’ fascist Italy will be realised by set designer Jeremy Herbert and costumer designer Nicky Gillibrand, with lighting design by Mimi Jordan Sherin. The production's choreography is designed by Sarah Fahie, with video design by Steve Williams
Handle’s overwhelmingly beautiful score coupled with Richard Jones’ imaginative direction make Rodelinda is a powerful production not to be missed.
