Ivo van Hove’s Met Opera debutTony Award-winning director Ivo van Hove (West Side Story; A View from the Bridge) makes a major Met Opera debut with a dark, stylish new take on Mozart’s great tragicomedy Don Giovanni.
This dazzling, witty opera is the tale of prolific womanizer Don Giovanni, a loveable rogue who spends his days seducing and outraging everyone around him. But soon, Don Giovanni will cross paths with something he can’t outwit or flatter to suit his needs - will he be able to escape the consequences of his actions?
Mozart’s Don Giovanni opera is a fast-paced story of deceit, damnation and retribution, inspired by the tale of Don Juan. In Ivo van Hove’s production, it is transported to an abstract architectural landscape where the darkest corners of this familiar story are exposed.
Nathalie Stutzmann conducts a cast including baritone Peter Mattei as a Don Giovanni, bass-baritone Adam Plachetka as Leporello, tenor Ben Bliss is Don Ottavio, and sopranos Federica Lombardi, Ana María Martínez, and Ying Fang as Giovanni’s conquests Donna Anna, Donna Elvira, and Zerlina.
An urbane, ironic and witty opera meets one of our most acclaimed theater directors with fantastic results. Book Don Giovanni tickets to see this blazing show in New York.
