Experience Franco Zeffirelli’s beloved 1981 staging of the world’s most popular opera, performed by the incredible Met Opera Company.
Puccini’s timeless, tragic love story
Franco Zeffirelli’s exceptional staging of Puccini’s La Bohème returns to the Met Opera, bringing the resonant tale of starcrossed lovers to a new generation of opera fans.Inspired by Henri Murger’s 1851 novel Scènes de la vie de bohème, La bohème at the Met Opera is the doomed love story of Mimi and artist Rodolfo, who reside in Paris’ Latin Quarter with their bohemian friends. Together, the couple make ends meet, until illness strikes with devastating consequences.
Franco Zeffirelli’s staging is a much-loved classic, having first premiered at the Met Opera in 1981. Puccini’s richly layered score is conducted in this new revival by Yannick Nézet-Séguin and James Gaffigan, and retains Zeffirelli’s lavish vision of what many argue is the world’s most popular opera.
The La Bohème cast includes soprano Eleonara Nurratto and tenor Stephen Costello as Mimi and Rodolfo, and soprano Kristina Mkhitaryan and baritone Davide Luciano as Musetta and Marcello. Later in the season, sopranos Susanna Phillips and Latonia Moore, tenor Charles Castronovo, and baritone Quinn Kelsey will assume the lead roles.
Brimming with joy and sorrow, book La Bohème tickets to experience a landmark production that still thrills 30 years later.
